Wompit was launched in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada in August of 2010 for five counties in Southern Ontario. Wompit began with a bike and a scooter out of the Founder’s garage, but grew in leaps and bounds. Based on the tremendous success of the site, in October of 2011, Wompit decided to launch an upgraded web-site across all of Canada.

The idea of starting Wompit came from the need to have a web-site that services the smaller towns and communities in Canada. Many web-sites are geared to big cities and big businesses, but who is looking after the small towns and small businesses? Wompit is!

Wompit’s web-site is like taking your entire community and everything it has to offer and putting it on-line!

The name Wompit was inspired by the word wampum which are native, sacred shell beads. When Europeans came to the Americas, they traded goods with the native peoples using wampum.  The founder wanted the name to reflect the idea of exchanging goods and services.  It was also important to have a name that would be catchy and fun to use in our slogans.

If you don’t want it, Wompit!          I like to Wompit!, Wompit! – I like to Wompit!
